Mira
Originally from Lexington, Massachusetts, Mira (they/them) is a senior at the University of Washington (UW), where they are pursuing a BS in Public & Global Health and a BA in Comparative History of Ideas. They joined PSCS in January of 2025 as an Administrative Intern after applying through UW’s Undergraduate Community Based Internship program (UCBI). They are excited and grateful to continue on part-time in support of mutual aid programming at PSCS, “with such a wonderful and welcoming community.”
This school year, Mira continues to build partnerships within Chinatown-International District (C-ID), create resource mechanisms for families and the wider community, and teach Mutual Aid & ‘zines class. You can download a PDF of the ‘zine created by students (last spring) by clicking the photo <<, or pick up a hard copy at the front desk.
During their time at PSCS, Mira says they’ve “learned how to build trust and recognize what brings people together.” They’ve come to understand that young people thrive when they are respected and given the space to explore, shaping their role to be less about directing and more about supporting. Mira’s approach to engaging with students is “deeply shaped by the generous, collaborative leadership modeled by PSCS staff and administration. The trust and thoughtful feedback they’ve received has encouraged me to reflect, experiment, and grow, all of which I carry into working with students.”
Mira enjoys reading, writing, drawing, and swimming in their free time. They currently hold leadership roles in several student organizations at UW, including Students of Color for Public Health, Project Indoor Farm, and the Campus Sustainability Fund. Mira also brings experience from their internship with the Washington Western Federal Public Defender, where they engaged further with interests in prison reform and social work in the criminal justice system. After graduating from UW, Mira hopes to continue working in people-centered, collaborative spaces, with a long-term goal of attending law school.
