PSCS students and staff are fully collaborative and, as such, we seek to enroll students who are interested in being active participants in their own education.

At PSCS, we don't just enroll students, we enroll families.

PSCS is a Washington state approved middle & high school and accepts applications for students entering grades 6-10. To be enrolled at PSCS is to be immersed in an ongoing process of collaboration that requires personal engagement and commitment to the community.

Please take a look through our Step-By-Step Guide to Applying (below). You can also see a full description of each step and due dates by visiting Ravenna, our online enrollment management system.

Step-by-Step Guide to the Admissions Process

Step 1. Inquiry

The first step in the PSCS admissions process is to send an inquiry—either fill out the Inquiry Form (below) or log in to Ravenna—and start a dialogue about your student(s).

Note, we accept applications for grades 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10.

Step 2. Admissions Open House(s)*

Each fall we host an Open House where prospective families can meet alum, current students, and our staff, take some "classes," and tour PSCS. RSVP for an event via Ravenna.

  • Fall Open House: Saturday, November 3, 12-3pm
  • Winter Open House: Wednesday, January 16, 6-8pm

*Attending an Open House IS NOT a required step in the official admissions process.

Step 3. Morning Visit for Families (October-January)*

Morning Visitations are the best opportunity for prospective parents and students to meet with our Executive Director and Director of Advancement, join us for our daily Check-in (an important part of our day), learn more about PSCS, meet available teaching staff members and current students, and visit some classes.

Visitation Mornings are scheduled in groups on a specific day of the week from 8:4o-11:40am. We consider these to be a critical part of our application process and we do occasionally schedule them outside of the regular admissions cycle. These are for the student and parent(s).

  • Schedule a Visitation Morning via Ravenna.

*Attending a Morning Visit IS a required step in the official admissions process.

Step 4. Early Enrollment for Siblings & Staff Families

  • Early sibling Application, Fee, & Preliminary Materials Deadline 11/21/18.
  • Supplemental Materials Deadline 12/1/18.
  • Early sibling decision posted 12/21/18.

Step 5. Online Application

All PSCS applications should be completed through our online enrollment system, Ravenna. You will create a login (or may have one already if you are applying to other independent schools) and then go through the steps as noted in the program.

  • Application, Fee, & Preliminary Materials Deadline 1/15/19.
  • Supplemental Materials Deadline 2/1/19.

Step 6. Tuition Aid Application

Please visit the Tuition Aid Info page before applying.

  • Tuition Aid applications for the 2019-120 school year are due 2/7/19 (via FACTS).
  • Subjective data letters for the Tuition Aid Committee are due 2/7/19 (via email).

Step 7. Applicant Full Day Visit

Applying students are required to participate in an applicant visit (by themselves) as part of the application process. These visits take place during the school week (on a mutually agreed upon day)—and are different in focus from our standard visitation/tour days. During these visits, students are present without their parents and are strongly encouraged to participate in school activities, as well as meet and interact with current students and staff. You'll only be able to sign up for a Full Day Visit, once your student's preliminary application steps have been fully completed.

  • Full Day visits will be scheduled for January/February 2019, via Ravenna

Step 8. Parent/Guardian Interview

When we contact your family to confirm your applying student's visit, we will also schedule a 45-minute parent interview. All parent(s)/guardian(s) are expected to attend. Interviews will be conducted at PSCS by Sieglinde Levery-Nicholas, Director of Advancement, and Amy Hollinger, PSCS Interim Executive Director. The purpose of this interview is threefold: to help us get to know your family better, gauge your understanding of our specific educational philosophy, and to provide you with a personal opportunity to discuss your child in greater depth and ask us any additional questions. You'll only be able to sign up for a Parent Interview, once your student's preliminary application steps and Full Day Visit have been fully completed.

  • Parent Interview's will be scheduled for January/February 2019, via Ravenna.

Step 9. Enrollment Decisions

After the applicant visit and parent interview, enrollment decisions (accepted, not accepted, waitlisted) will be posted in Ravenna. Tuition Aid decisions will be sent home that week as well.

  • Enrollment Decisions for the 2019-20 school year will be posted on 3/15/19.

Step 10. Contract & Deposit

Once a student has been offered admission and decides to join the PSCS community, we require an enrollment contract and $1000 deposit to hold your student's spot. If this deposit is a hardship for your family, please contact our Administrative Director, Samuel Mitchell.

  • Contract and deposit for the 2019-20 school year due 3/22/19.
Morning Visitation Info

We ask all guests to arrive on visitation days promptly at 8:40 a.m. Guests will join our Director of Admissions for a tour and a brief overview of the school philosophy.

At 9 a.m., everyone will join the circle for Check-in, the all-school meeting that starts our day. There, a student—we never know which one—will seize the moment and declare, “Check-in has started. Announcements?” Staff and students have the opportunity to share news, information, or reminders to the rest of the community.

The check-in leader will then offer space for appreciations. Inspired by the work of the Positive Psychology movement growing out of the University of Pennsylvania, this practice is designed to elevate everyone’s consciousness of the good things that are happening in their lives. It’s a short, simple, and incredibly powerful ritual.

After that, visitors will meet teaching staff and have the opportunity to explore classes and activities at their own pace, opening doors and observing and participating in activities that interest them. During this time, staff and students will be happy to answer any questions you might have about how the school works.

While we prefer that guests come on the scheduled visitation days (starting in October, 2017), we are sometimes able to accommodate visits at other times. If you would like to come to PSCS on a visitation day, or to schedule a visit at another time, please call or email the Tim at the Front Desk.

Tuition & Fees

PSCS tuition has been set at $20,780 for the 2018-2019 school year. The Board of Trustees agrees upon the tuition for the following school year each winter and a non-refundable deposit is due at the time an official enrollment agreement is signed. This deposit is credited toward the student’s final tuition. Families have the option of paying tuition in one lump sum or spreading the payments throughout the year. Check out our Installment Page for more information.

PSCS Tuition for 2019-20 school year will be confirmed and posted in December, 2019.

Tuition & Program Aid

Last year, PSCS awarded over $100,000 in aid to our current and incoming families. All admissions decisions are made independently of tuition aid decisions. To the extent that our funds permit, aid is available to qualifying students whose parents are able to establish financial need through the aid application process.

For more, please take a moment to look over the Tuition Aid Info Page.

Tution Aid Info

The 2019-20 Tuition Aid Application deadline is 2/7/19 for both NEW AND RETURNING families. This does not mean you cannot still apply outside that deadline, but timeliness of applications is a consideration of our Tuition Aid Committee. To be considered for an aid award, you must first apply through FACTS, our online aid assessment service.

In addition to need considerations, the Tuition Aid Committee takes into account:

  • the number of, ages of, and tuition obligations for other children
  • additional dependents
  • assets
  • all sources of income

Letters should be sent to the committee outlining debts, expenses, spending priorities, and extenuating circumstances, not taken into consideration by FACTS. This letter should also include any other information an applying family deems relevant.

The committee will also consider other factors pertinent to the school community, such as race, gender, demonstration of the school’s core commitments, and make awards in support of the school’s diversity goals. Again, timeliness of these submissions is also weighed in the decision-making process.

Please note:

  • Tuition aid does not automatically renew. Families must reapply each year.
  • Tuition deposits will be refunded for families who are offered aid and subsequently decide the amount is not sufficient to enroll their children.
  • In cases where parents are divorced, incomes from both parents and new partners are combined.

If you are considering applying for tuition aid and have questions regarding the process please email or call 206.324.4350.
