Camp Indianola

During the first week of school all PSCS students and teaching staff go on an overnight retreat to get to know each other and spend some time in the great outdoors.

This year’s retreat will be held at Camp Indianola near Kingston on Thursday & Friday, September 7 and 8. Below are meet up instructions & key details. Please note: there are TWO options for meeting up on Thursday Sept. 7 (response is requested)

Option 1: MEET AT THE FERRY TERMINAL
Come to the downtown Seattle Ferry Terminal by 9am. The ferry departs at  9:35am. The passenger pickup and drop-off areas during dock construction are along Alaskan Way, and there may be limited options for dropping off directly in front of the terminal. Please see this WSF flyer for more specific info. Nic, Scobie, and Elizabeth will be there to receive students.

Option 2: MEET AT SCHOOL AND WALK TO FERRY
Families who prefer this option can meet Chrissy and Sam at PSCS 8:30am to walk together to the ferry terminal. Those walking to the terminal will leave at 8:30am sharp. Students taking this option MUST be able to carry all their own gear on the walk over to the terminal. Musicians especially, must be aware if they’re bringing an instrument.

Once on the other side, Bainbridge Island School District yellow buses will transport us to and from Camp Indianola. Note that students do NOT need to bring money for the ferry; the school pays a special school fare.

FOOD
Students should pack a lunch for Thursday and any desired snacks for both days. Dinner on Thursday, plus breakfast and lunch are provided by Camp Indianola. The camp is reasonably competent about providing special food options for those who need them (GF, Veg, etc.). If you have concerns, please be in touch with Tim.

PACKING FOR THE RETREAT

  • Bedding and PJs (sheets, blankets, sleeping bag, pillows — whatever you need to sleep comfortably on a Camp Indianola foam mattress
  • clothes for the two days
  • A sweater or other warm layer for the evening (expect it to be several degrees cooler than in the city)
  • Toiletries & towel
  • Sack lunch for Thursday
  • Pen and notebook
  • Stuff to have fun or perform with (e.g. instruments, flying toys, magic tricks, etc.)
  • Any medication taken regularly
  • Seniors only: bring a laptop

Please pack all items backpacks, plus bedding, and maybe an instrument. Avoid suitcases, rolling bags, or multiple bags. There is minimal space on the bus and students need to be able to carry what they bring.

RETURN TO SEATTLE, Friday Sept 8
After a bus ride back to Winslow/Bainbridge, our ferry departs at 2:55pm and arrives at the downtown Seattle terminal at 3:30pm.

Parent’s will want to arrive to pick up your child at about 3:30 (or arrange for your child to leave the terminal by local transit). Friday’s school day ends at the ferry terminal for all students. Note that during afternoon commute hours, the loading zone directly adjacent to the terminal (at which you may have dropped off your student) will not be available; plan to pick up at the Alaskan Way pickup area as specified in the WSF flyer.

Please email or call Tim with any questions AND to and let us know whether your student will meet Chrissy and Sam at PSCS (Option 1), or Nic, Elizabeth, and Scobie at the ferry terminal (Option 2) on 9/7.
